A Little Bunkie with a Whole Lot of Heart

Welcome to Lake Muskoka, where I finally get to share a little gem we’ve been keeping under wraps for nearly a year.

Our cottage bunkie is officially featured in the July/August issue of House & Home magazine, and I’m still pinching myself. To be featured for the second time this year - with another full eight-page spread - feels surreal. I knew the bunkie was special, but I had no idea it would receive this kind of spotlight. We’ve poured so much into this project, and I’m beyond excited to finally show you what we’ve been quietly working on.

We originally built the bunkie to host overflow guests from the main cottage; something self-contained and comfortable, with just enough charm to feel like its own retreat. It’s small but mighty: two bedrooms, one bathroom, a proper kitchen, a cozy gas fireplace wrapped in marble, and even its own little patio. Every inch was designed with care and intention.

Aesthetically, the bunkie speaks the same language as the main cottage, but with its own distinct accent. It’s warm, layered, and just a touch more playful. One of my favourite decisions was in the kitchen - skipping upper cabinets in favour of a large window that looks out into the forest. It frames the landscape like art and makes the whole space feel like a private woodland escape.

That balance - between cohesion and individuality, function and beauty - is what makes this little space feel so special. It’s nestled into the landscape, anchored by thoughtful details and generous design, and finally ready to welcome its first guests.

You can find the full feature in House & Home, on newsstands now, and watch a video on Youtube for more behind-the-scenes footage. I hope you love the bunkie as much as I do.
