Global Inspirations - Design Dreams from Marrakech

I’m always chasing inspiration, not just in trends, but in places, in moments, and in textures that shift the way I see the world. Few places do this quite like Marrakech. Even though I haven’t (yet!) been to Morocco, it’s high on my bucket list. Until I get there, I’ve been collecting recommendations from creative friends and designers I admire, and saving endless collections on Instagram and Pinterest that have shaped how I dream of the city.

Stepping into Marrakech - even virtually- feels like entering a living moodboard. The layers of history, pattern, and colour are beautiful, soulful, rooted, and alive.

From Zellige tilework to rose-toned walls and carved cedar ceilings, Marrakech teaches a simple truth I bring into every home I design: good interiors tell stories—through shadow and light, craft and culture, collected rather than styled.

So if you’re dreaming of a trip that fills your senses and your Pinterest boards, this Marrakech travel guide is for you. These are curated picks from friends with excellent taste: the best things to do, delicious places to eat, and gorgeous boutique stays to enjoy.

This guide may change how you see your own space—and who knows, it might even inspire you to book that trip to Morocco…

Let’s get lost, shall we?

Things to Do in Marrakech (Design Lover’s Edition)

Wander the Medina

Let your senses lead. The medina isn’t short of inspiration, from the antique doors and handmade rugs to lantern-lit courtyards, every corner offers something unexpected. Go slow.

Visit the Majorelle Garden & Yves Saint Laurent Museum

A masterclass in colour and restraint. The cobalt blue garden walls and structured plantings are a must-see for design and fashion lovers.

Maison de la Photographie

This quiet, beautifully curated museum showcases vintage Moroccan photography, and has one of the best rooftops in the city.

Anima Garden by André Heller

A 30-minute drive from the city, this artistic botanical escape combines wild colour with sculpture and whimsy. It’s less known, but totally magical.

Beldi Country Club

A secret garden-meets-design escape just outside Marrakech. Go for a spa afternoon or lunch in the rose garden.

Boutique Hotels in Marrakech & Beyond

These aren’t your typical stays, which is just how we like them! These hotels are immersive, stylish, and full of personality.

Farasha Farmhouse

Earthy, effortless, and soulful. Natural materials, vintage touches, and dreamy desert light.

Maison Brummell Majorelle

Tucked near the iconic garden. Neutral tones, artisanal accents, and serious design cred.

Les Jardins de Villa Maroc (Essaouira)

Worth the coastal drive. A lush garden retreat full of layered neutrals and seaside elegance.

Berber Lodge

Set in the olive groves, this lodge feels like a soulful hideaway — hand-built beauty, grounded in place.

Where to Eat in Marrakech - Design-Forward & Delicious

Nomad

A rooftop classic. Fresh Moroccan dishes with a modern twist. The interiors are a designer’s dream, with patterned floors, neutral walls, and brass details.

L'Mida

Lush rooftop views and a stylish crowd. Order the slow-cooked lamb or beetroot hummus and stay for sunset.

La Famille

A vegetarian oasis with a hidden garden and hand-drawn menus. Soft textiles, shade trees, and relaxed vibes.

Al Fassia

Authentic Moroccan cuisine, slow-cooked to perfection, and fully run by women. The lamb shoulder is unforgettable.

Plus61

Australian-Moroccan fusion in a breezy, plant-filled interior. It’s design-forward without trying too hard.

Bringing Marrakech Home: A Designer's Reflection

Traveling through Marrakech is like moving through a well-designed home, where every corner is curated, considered, and deeply lived-in. Whether you’re exploring this city soon or simply dreaming of it from afar, I hope this guide sparks something; a new palette, a design idea, or the reminder that inspiration lives everywhere.

And before I go, here are some tips for first-time travelers to Marrakech

Cash is essential in the souks. ATMs are available, but small bills are your best friend

Dress respectfully - floaty fabrics, light layers, and covered shoulders will take you anywhere

Haggle with grace. Negotiation is part of the culture, so start low, and smile often

Book key experiences ahead of time, especially hammams or top restaurants

Let go of the plan! Marrakech rewards spontaneity - take the detour.

Craving a home that feels as inspiring as your travels? Let’s design a space that tells your story.
