Old World Meets Modern Elegance

BEORE & AFTER: PROJECT BELLHAVEN

I met my clients at Project Bellhaven in the summer of 2021 and knew right away that we were going to have an amazing dynamic, which isn’t something that’s always easy to tell at the beginning!

The husband, an ad exec, and the wife, a labour & delivery nurse, were looking to renovate their main floor, specifically their kitchen, and their family bathroom. Unsure of the direction to take, and how to make the spaces work best for them, they enlisted the help of Parris McKenna Design to completely overhaul these areas.

After reconfiguring the layouts of both the kitchen and the bathroom, including moving walls and doors, we were able to execute a design for both spaces that was not only functional but encouraged easy flow and timeless longevity.

When it came to the design phase, I had some bold ideas, specifically when it came to the colour palette I wanted to use; I wanted it to feel warm, like a European cottage, but with a modern twist. I love an earthy palette, and incorporate colours like browns and greens and terracotta wherever possible. When I started pulling together the vision board, I knew each room needed to be impactful in its own way, but still feel connected to the rest of the house. By using accents of wood and brass throughout, and the same style of tile in both the kitchen and the bathroom, we ensured continuity throughout.

Seeing how much this project has resonated with people is so special for me because it was an opportunity for me to be completely creative and push the boundaries for my clients. They gave me complete design control and put their trust in me to deliver spaces that were uniquely theirs, and the result was something I’m very proud of.

Everyone involved in this project believed in the vision that Parris McKenna Design brought to the table, and that allowed it to come together so beautifully. Our contractor, Galen at Echo Rock Contracting, had incredibly skilled trades executing the design; stylists Me & Mo Creative pulled the final touches together in the most beautiful way, and Valerie Wilcox photographed the spaces like the genius she is.
