PMD’s Top 3 styles for interiors this year

bold, impactful interiors for 2024

We’re focusing on spaces that exude rich, warm and moody vibes - think English cottages or New York Brownstones with attention to patterns, textures and materials.

We’re not big on trends at PMD. The word itself makes things feel of the moment, and our goal is to create timeless interiors with longevity. While there are definitely styles and materials that take the spotlight each year and inspire us, we tend to gravitate towards transitional design as an overarching aesthetic. Transitional style allows us to blend old and new, modern with traditional, and pieces with rich history paired with newer designs.

This year, we created 3 vision boards of aesthetics we’re gravitating towards. While they all fall under the West Coast, neutral earth tone palette we infuse into our projects, each has its own unique look and feel.

The English Countryside Cottage

Our first vision board reflects an unfussy, organic and warm style you would find in quaint cottages in the English countryside or the US’s New England towns. There’s a focus on incorporating pieces with history, down to the materials that often have a patina that’s developed over time. The tones are warm and rich, and patterns usually make their way into this style whether it’s wallpaper or furniture upholstery. Nothing feels too precious, everything feels lived in. Think of a living room you’d curl up with a good book and a roaring fire in, while feeling soothed and inspired by your surroundings.

The California Residence

If you’re looking for the ultimate display of a light neutral palette, you need not look further than California homes where the focus is on monochromatic colours richly enhanced through tones and textures. Think anything Jenni Kayne, or Amber Lewis’ West Coast projects. Even when the principle colour throughout is white/cream/greige, a space can still create a highly impactful feeling of luxury and careful curation. It’s usually through this type of palette that you can really let your creativity shine, because it’s about layering pieces into the space that not only compliment but enhance the room and eliminate any feelings of cold starkness. It encourages an indoor/outdoor lifestyle where nature and your surroundings play a pivotal role in the materials and finishes you select.

The New York City Brownstone

The last aesthetic we’re pinning to our our 2024 inspiration board is what we’re referring to as the NYC Brownstone, the kind of space that immediately exudes elegance and sophistication. These are spaces showcasing deeply veined marble, rich fabrics like velvets and leathers, and traditional flooring like checkerboard tiles or herringbone hardwood. Homes with this aesthetic infuse drama and visual interest at every corner and honour the original character of the home or neighbourhood it’s in. They’re layered with conversation pieces and often enjoyed with a Negroni and home-cooked meal.
