This project asked us to look beyond aesthetics and create a home that would support everyday life in the most meaningful ways.
Every room, every transition, and every decision became an opportunity to create greater independence, comfort, and ease—not just for one family member, but for everyone who calls this house home.
Accessibility Begins Long Before Construction
Accessible design is often associated with grab bars, ramps, or wider doorways.
While those elements are important, they only tell part of the story.
The real work happens much earlier.
It begins by understanding how a family moves through their home, where challenges exist in everyday routines, and how thoughtful planning can remove barriers before they're ever built.
For Project Relevé, accessibility became the foundation of every design decision rather than a checklist applied at the end.
A Home That Supports the Way This Family Lives
Every family uses their home differently.
For this family, creating spaces that foster independence was just as important as creating spaces that felt welcoming and beautiful.
Across three levels, each area was designed with intention.
The goal wasn't simply to meet accessibility requirements—it was to create a home where movement feels natural, routines become easier, and every member of the family feels empowered to participate fully in daily life.
The result is a home that quietly supports its family without drawing attention to the features that make it possible.
That's what thoughtful design should do.
Beauty and Accessibility Can – and Should – Coexist
One of the biggest misconceptions about accessible design is that it requires compromising on aesthetics.
We don't believe that's true.
